Site Description: Located in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, in the parking lot of Cathedral Metal along Manton Ave, this site is classified as an infiltration basin, which is a low vegetated depression that fills with stormwater during rain events. Stormwater runoff from the nearby parking lot and roofs flows into the basin through a curb cut. The basin fills up and accumulates water during rain events. Inside the basin, soil, grass, and plants act as the filtering mechanism to clean pollutants from the stormwater. When the basin reaches full capacity, excess stormwater drains through the overflow structure located within the basin. The captured stormwater should absorb into the soil within 24-48 hours after a rainstorm.
Photo-Video Tips: Stand near the curb cut at the edge of the parking lot to capture video of whether stormwater is flowing into the basin through the curb cut. Also, verify with video that the basin is filling up and draining properly.
